The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially begun its internal transition, releasing the timetable for its 2025/2026 nationwide congresses.
Signed and released via X (formerly Twitter) by the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, the schedule outlines a multi-month roadmap that will see the party overhaul its leadership from the ward level up to the national stage.
The journey to the National Convention began on December 1, 2025, with a two-month membership e-registration drive.
This digital audit, ending January 30, 2026, is designed to sanitize the party’s database before elective activities commence in February.
Following the registration phase, the party will move into a rapid-fire election cycle:
February 18, 2026: Ward Congresses nationwide.
February 20, 2026: Local Government Area (LGA) Congresses. Notably, each LGA will elect three delegates to the national convention, with a strict mandate that at least one must be female.
March 7, 2026: State Congresses to elect state-level executives.
March 21, 2026: Zonal Congresses, to be held simultaneously across the six geopolitical zones in cities including Ibadan, Enugu, and Kaduna.
The process will reach its climax in Abuja with the National Convention, scheduled for March 25 to March 28, 2026.
In a bid to maintain party cohesion, the Senator Basiru-signed document emphasises that the congresses are being conducted under Articles 11 and 17 of the APC Constitution.
The party has also built-in specific “Appeal Windows” after every stage—Ward, LGA, State, and Zonal—to provide a formal mechanism for resolving internal disputes before the final convention.
