The Abia All Progressives Congress(APC) has reacted to what it described as a false and misleading publication by one Emmanuel Nweze, titled “You Can’t Take Power Through the Back Door.”
In a statement issued by the Acting Publicity Secretary of Abia APC, Barr. Ifeanyi Igwe, the party said the publication was deceptive and capable of misleading the general public and the people of Abia State.
The party clarified that its current focus is on the nationwide online party registration and revalidation exercise currently ongoing across the country.
Speaking on the issue, Barr. Ifeanyi Igwe emphasized that the online registration is strictly for APC members and has nothing to do with non-party members.
He added that anyone expressing fear or concern about the exercise is either unserious about politics or lacks genuine grassroots support.
Igwe used the opportunity to call on party members to actively participate in the e-registration process.
He also urged Abians who are yet to join the party to do so,noting that APC remains committed to strengthening Abia State and Nigeria at large.
He further stated that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not practice segregation, but rather carries every state along in its developmental agenda for the overall betterment of the nation.
Igwe further explained that APC wants its members to be eligible voters, stressing that to qualify as an eligible voter, one must possess a valid Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) and a National Identification Number (NIN).
Reacting to comments from the Labour Party, Igwe said it was unfortunate and shameful that the party appeared threatened by the APC’s nationwide e-registration exercise.
He described such reactions as a sign of ignorance about the purpose and scope of the registration process.
According to him, the registration is strictly for APC members, making the exercise lawful and appropriate.
He stressed that APC’s internal registration activities are not the business of the Labour Party or any other political organization.
Igwe described the e-registration exercise as scientific, transparent, and credible, noting that it is already being applauded across the globe for its efficiency and integrity in strengthening party democracy.
He added that the e-registration exercise is taking place across all states of the federation and that Abia State will not be an exception and warned that the APC is prepared to take every legal step against any individual or group that publishes falsehood or misinformation about the party.
According to him, APC understands the law and will not act contrary to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He concluded that anyone intimidated by the APC online registration exercise should instead focus on organizing and strengthening their own party members.
