The Abia State Government has commenced full enforcement of its ban on commercial motorcycle operations in designated areas of Umuahia, Aba and Ohafia, with violators to pay a N50,000 fine.

Abia State Governor
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Kanu, announced this Tuesday while briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Kanu said motorcycles found operating in restricted areas would be impounded immediately, while riders who fail to pay the N50,000 fine within 30 days risk forfeiting their motorcycles.
He said all motorcycles operating in the state, including private, commercial and delivery bikes, must be registered under the government’s enumeration programme.
The government said the measure is aimed at improving security and restoring order in major urban centres across the state.
