The Abia State Government will hold a state burial service in honour of the late Rev Dr Uma Ukpai, a distinguished cleric and illustrious son of the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, disclosed this at Government House, Umuahia, while briefing newsmen on the outcome of Monday’s State Executive Council meeting.
He said the solemn event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, at 10:00 a.m.
Kanu described the late Rev Dr Ukpai as “a devoted ambassador of Christ whose ministerial exploits brought honour and recognition to Abia State and beyond.”
Also, former Governor and senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, called on the state government to immortalise the late preacher.
In a statement, Kalu described Rev Ukpai as “a spiritual icon whose contributions to Christianity and societal development remain indelible,” noting that his influence transcended the pulpit and impacted lives across Nigeria and beyond.
“With the burial of this great servant of God taking place in Ohafia this week, it is only fitting that the Abia State Government takes concrete steps to immortalise him.
“His life was one of service, sacrifice and commitment to humanity,” Kalu said, urging leaders to emulate his virtues of humility, discipline, and dedication to service
