The Abia State Government has firmly dismissed as false and misleading a viral social media report alleging that Governor Alex Otti dragged the Federal Government of Nigeria to the World Court over the non-approval of a proposed cargo airport in Aba.

The trending claims, which circulated widely on platforms including Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and others in recent days, further asserted that Governor Otti’s supposed petition accused the federal authorities of marginalizing the South-East region and claimed that Igbos were being killed and denied rights in Lagos, linking these issues to the absence of aviation infrastructure in the zone.
In a strongly worded statement issued Monday night, Abia State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, described the reports as “spurious, fabricated, and misleading articles of propaganda” orchestrated by certain political actors.
Kanu categorically denied the existence of any such lawsuit, emphasizing that Governor Otti had neither filed nor contemplated any petition to an international court against the Nigerian Government on this or any related matter.
“Let it be stated categorically and without ambiguity that no such lawsuit exists, and Governor Alex Otti has neither approached nor petitioned any international court against the Nigerian Government on this matter or any other,” the commissioner stated.
He added that the story was “false in its entirety, reckless in intent, and deliberately crafted to mislead the public.”
The commissioner highlighted that aviation infrastructure approvals in Nigeria fall under established national regulatory and administrative frameworks, and the Abia State Government had never initiated or considered international litigation on such domestic issues.
Addressing the inflammatory ethnic angle in the viral posts, Kanu condemned the claim that Governor Otti alleged killings or rights denials of Igbos in Lagos as a “wicked lie calculated to inflame ethnic sentiments, create unnecessary tension, and drag the Governor’s name into a dangerous web of falsehood.”
The state government accused opposition members and unnamed political actors of coordinating smear campaigns aimed at tarnishing the administration’s image.
