Amaorji village in Obingwa Local Government Area came alive on Monday, May 4, 2026, in a dramatic political spectacle as waves of supporters, party loyalists, and key stakeholders gathered in a charged atmosphere to witness the official declaration of Charles Ugo Okezie Nwosu for the Abia State House of Assembly.
The declaration, held at his country home, transformed the quiet community into a buzzing political arena, drawing an impressive array of party leaders, traditional rulers, government officials, and grassroots mobilizers in what observers described as a bold and strategic entry into the 2027 race.
Addressing the electrified crowd, the aspirant, Hon. Charles Ugo Okezie Nwosu expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming turnout, describing it as a clear testament to the widespread acceptance and confidence he enjoys across both state and local political structures. He emphasized that the presence of influential stakeholders and ordinary citizens alike signaled unity of purpose ahead of the political season.
Declaring that “the political season has commenced,” Nwosu challenged the people to begin a critical evaluation of past and present leadership, urging constituents to question what current officeholders have delivered. He framed the moment as one of accountability and decision-making, insisting that 2027 must be driven by informed choices.
In a strong show of confidence, he declared that come 2027, the Labour Party would record a landslide victory in Obingwa, scoring “100 over 100.”
He credited the enabling political environment to the leadership of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, noting that the Governor’s sweeping transformation reforms and visible infrastructure development, particularly in road construction and other critical sectors, have made the work of other elected office holders easier across the state.
Nwosu assured that if given the mandate to fly the party’s flag, his top priority would be the welfare and advancement of the people of Obingwa West. He further declared his unwavering loyalty to Governor Otti and the Labour Party, stressing that his commitment transcends personal ambition.
According to him, regardless of who emerges as the party’s candidate, he would mobilize fully to ensure not only the victory of the candidate but also a resounding re-election for the Governor.
Formally announcing his ambition to represent Obingwa West State Constituency, Hon. Nwosu highlighted his professional background as a graduate of Architecture and Chief Executive Officer of Jebgicon Nig. Ltd., presenting himself as a blend of technical expertise and grassroots connection.
He traced his roots to Amaorji in Abayi Ward 2 and delved into the longstanding political imbalance within Obingwa West, pointing out that the Ahiaba/Abayi bloc has not produced a representative since 1999.
According to him, his candidacy is not just personal ambition but a collective movement for equity and rotational justice.
In a striking revelation, he disclosed that despite his personal financial capacity, members of his bloc have voluntarily committed to funding his campaign, an indication, he said, of their determination to reclaim political inclusion.
While acknowledging the growing number of aspirants, Nwosu maintained a tone of unity, stressing that all contenders are “brothers” and qualified.
However, he made it clear that the time has come for a generational shift, declaring emphatically that it is now “Youth O’clock” in Obingwa politics.
He further invoked the principle of rotational leadership as a stabilizing force in the area, noting that without it, demographic imbalances, particularly between the six wards in Uhie and five in Agalaba, could have triggered recurring communal tensions.
Projecting confidence in his party, he stated that while the Labour Party entered the 2023 elections “like a sheep,” it would approach 2027 “like a lion,” signaling a more aggressive and organized political force.
Backing his declaration, the State Chairman of the Labour Party, Chief Peter Chigozie Azubuike, popularly known as “The Rock,” described Nwosu’s move as timely and strategic. He praised his composure and clarity of vision, affirming that his speech reflected readiness for leadership.
Azubuike emphasized party unity, noting that after primaries, victory belongs to all members regardless of who emerges. He revealed that within just one week, no fewer than 24 aspirants have indicated interest in contesting for State House of Assembly seats under the Labour Party, likening the contest to a competitive football match.
Adding his voice, Mazi Nkem Okoro, State Chairman of the Abia Arise Political Structure, commended Nwosu for running a clean, hate-free speech and issue-based declaration, describing him as a mature and responsible politician who avoided attacking opponents.
A host of dignitaries, including the Mayor of Obingwa LGA, Hon. Maxwell Nwadike; the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Affairs, Dr. Ebere Uzoukwa; Former commissioner for Homeland security, Hon. Sopuruchi Bekee; Chief Charles Nwangwa; and the Labour Party Chairman for Obingwa LGA, Chief Anthony Ngwakwe, took turns to applaud the aspirant, describing him as a credible and unifying figure capable of delivering effective representation.
