An Indian expatriate, Renjith Pillai, 42, was abducted and a police officer killed during an armed attack on an agricultural farm in Ogunmakin Village, Ibadan, Oyo State, on January 16, 2026.

The attack occurred around 1:00 p.m. at Aqua Triton Company farm when about ten armed bandits invaded the premises. Pillai, a company director, was inspecting crops at the time of the attack.
One of the four Police Mobile Force officers on duty, Inspector Imoobe Prester, engaged the attackers in a gun duel while trying to stop the abduction. He was shot during the encounter and later died after being rushed for medical care. The assailants fled into nearby bushes with the abducted expatriate and the officer’s AK-47 rifle.
A joint security team comprising police, PMF, anti-kidnapping operatives, local hunters, and vigilantes has launched a manhunt for the suspects. Investigations are ongoing, and the police have appealed to the public for information that could aid the victim’s rescue and the arrest of those responsible.
