Hon. Dame Blessing Nwagba, the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Abia South in the 2023 general elections, has formally declared her intention to recontest for the senatorial seat in 2027, vowing quality representation, if elected.
Nwagba, a seasoned grassroots politician and two-term former member of the Abia State House of Assembly, made her declaration during a strategic meeting with the enlarged executive committee of the APC in Aba North Local Government Area. The meeting was convened under the leadership of the Aba North APC Chairman, Hon. Uche Ekwenye, and witnessed the presence of key party stakeholders and mobilizers.
Addressing party faithful, Nwagba expressed gratitude for the unwavering support she has continued to receive across the zone, noting that her decision to recontest was driven by a renewed determination to serve the people of Abia South with integrity, competence, and inclusiveness.
She assured that, if elected, her tenure would be anchored on effective legislative advocacy, facilitation of critical infrastructure, youth and women empowerment, and strategic partnerships aimed at unlocking the economic potential of the Aba axis and the entire Abia South senatorial district.
“As someone deeply rooted in the grassroots, I understand the yearnings of our people. My aspiration is not just to occupy a seat in the Senate, but to provide quality representation that translates into tangible development and improved livelihoods,” she stated.
In further demonstration of her consultative approach and respect for party hierarchy, Hon. Nwagba paid a courtesy visit to prominent APC leaders in the zone, including Nwadiala Dr. Emeka Wogu, former Minister of Labour and Employment and current Chairman of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Dr Nyerere Anyim, Hon Esiaga, as well as Sir Justice Onwumelu, the APC Zonal Chairman for Abia South, who all gave their support and pledged to work for the victory of all APC candidates at all levels.
The visits, according to sources within her campaign circle, were aimed at strengthening party unity, seeking counsel, and consolidating support ahead of what is expected to be a keenly contested senatorial race.
Nwadiala Emeka Wogu endorsed her aspiration, expressing confidence in her experience and abilities, and emphasizing that it is only equitable for Aba Federal Constituency to produce the next senator, since the other two federal constituencies have had their turns.
On his side, Dr Nyerere Anyim, who has also declared his interest in the race, welcomed Nwagba’s aspiration in good faith.
Political observers note that Nwagba’s early declaration signals the commencement of strategic positioning within the APC in Abia South, as the party intensifies efforts to take the senatorial seat in 2027.
Her re-entry into the race is already generating conversations within political circles, with many highlighting her legislative experience, grassroots appeal, and consistent engagement with constituents as key strengths that could shape the dynamics of the contest.
