The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State has condemned the attack on St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Agwara LGA. The incident, which occurred between 1am and 3am, saw armed men invade the compound, shoot the security guard, and abduct pupils, students, teachers, and a guard.
In a statement issued in Minna, CAN Chairman, Bulus Yohanna, said the association was deeply troubled by the incident. He described the attack as “distressing and unacceptable” and expressed concern over the safety of the victims and the trauma currently faced by their families.
Yohanna, who is also the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, noted that CAN is working closely with security agencies, community leaders, and government authorities to support ongoing rescue efforts. He appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate fully with security operatives to aid swift intervention.
He urged Christians and Nigerians to pray for the abducted victims, reaffirming CAN’s commitment to advocating for school safety. “May the Lord grant quick release to those abducted and continue to protect His people from all dangers,” he said.
