Reports indicate that former Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embaló has taken refuge in Senegal following the recent political upheaval in the country.
Despite his removal, key allies of Embaló continue to occupy top positions in the transitional structure:
Illídio Vieira Té, Embaló’s campaign director, has been appointed Prime Minister while still retaining his position as Finance Minister.
Diniz N’Tchama, Embaló’s former military aide, now serves as the Government Spokesperson.
Gen. Horta Inta-a, another close ally, has been named Interim President.
Observers have described the development as a possible “ceremonial coup,” raising questions about whether power has genuinely changed hands or simply shifted among Embaló’s inner circle.
