The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed February 24 to hear a suit seeking to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission to deregister the African Democratic Congress and three other parties.

The suit, filed by the Incorporated Trustees of the National Forum of Former Legislators, also targets the Accord Party, Zenith Labour Party and Action Alliance. The plaintiff argued that the parties failed to meet constitutional electoral performance thresholds.

According to the case, the affected parties did not secure the required 25 per cent of votes in at least one state during presidential elections or win any elective seat at various levels of government.

The plaintiff is asking the court to compel INEC to deregister the parties and restrain them from participating in the 2027 general elections. The matter has been assigned to Justice Peter Lifu for hearing.
