Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Rauf Aregbesola, former Osun State governor, are currently meeting in Abuja to present their stance on the Electoral Act and other pressing national issues.
The meeting is holding at the Lagos/Osun Hall of the Transcorp Hilton, where the opposition leaders are expected to brief journalists on contentious provisions of the recently amended Electoral Act, which has sparked debate following its passage by the National Assembly and assent by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Although the amendment has been signed into law, opposition parties have voiced dissatisfaction with some of its provisions, particularly their push for mandatory real-time electronic transmission of election results directly from polling units.
Among those present at the gathering are former Senate President David Mark; a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Buba Galadima; former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi; and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
Other stakeholders at the venue include the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi; Senator Dino Melaye; former ADC National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu; and former Cross River State Governor, Liyel Imoke, among others.
