Enugu State Police have arrested Chibuike Joshua Ugwuja, a 26-year-old security guard, for allegedly staging his own kidnapping and demanding N35 million from his family.

According to SP Daniel Ndukwe, Chibuike’s father reported on November 24, 2025, that his son had left for work two days earlier but never returned. The family received a Facebook message claiming Chibuike had been abducted by unknown assailants who were demanding a ransom.

During investigation, Chibuike was brought to the police station by his father on November 30. He confessed to faking the kidnapping, saying he had visited a friend in Amorji Nike instead of returning home and became frustrated over his uncle’s alleged failure to buy him a tricycle. He reportedly returned home on November 29 after his ransom demand was unmet.

The suspect is currently in police custody and will be arraigned once investigations conclude. Police emphasized their commitment to prosecuting individuals who create panic or abuse public trust.
