An Abia State High Court sitting in Umunneochi Local Government Area, Abia State has mandated and compelled the Abia State Government led by Dr Alex Otti, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Ikechukwu Uwana, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Prince Uzor Nwachukwu and his Ministry, the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to recognize HRM Eze Godwin Kanu Edei Kanu Okorie as the duly crowned Eze Aro.
Justice Chido Nwakanma, who delivered the judgement, said that HRM Godwin Kanu Edei Kanu Okoro had already been crowned King ( Eze Aro) as at 20th October 2023 before the institution of the case, which rendered the case status barred.
The Court also restrained Nwamazi Pastor Eberechukwu Eni Kanu Orji to stop parading himself as the crowned Eze of Aro Kingdom.
The court further restrained any group or organization that Nwamazi Pastor Eberechukwu Kanu is using to harass, intimidate and threaten the 19 Eze Ogos, Eze Asaga, Eze Ezeagwu, Eze Ibom Isii with dethronement, arrest and detention.
The implication of the judgement is that, right now, in the eyes of the law, the coronation of Nwamazi Pastor Ébéréchukwu Kanu as Eze Aro on 26th January, 2024 is considered null and void as the Court only recognizes HRM Godwin Kanu Edei kanu Okorie as the crowned Eze Aro Kingdom.
By the pronouncement of the Court, the 2024 Aro Ikeji festival is under threat as the letter for the festival purportedly in circulation and signed by Nwamazi Pastor Ébéréchukwu Kanu Orji is considered in the eyes of the law of no effects since he is not the Eze Aro.
