Observers have noted that the much talked about “light which has come to Abia,” as promoted by Uche Ogah and his followers, appears to be seen only by him because of the empty promise to handover power to him in 2031, a promise believed more than the reality of governance in the state.
Political analysts say Ogah’s renewed political activity is not driven by public service but by an unrelenting governorship ambition built on deception, manipulation, and misplaced confidence. His so called “light” has become a political mirage designed to mislead those who hoped would give him power in 2031.
Sources allege that Uche Ogah actively persuaded two House of Assembly members from Umuahia North and Isuikwuato, to defect to the Labour Party under the assurance of future political rewards tied to his 2031 ambition. The same empty promises have reportedly been extended to many others.
In what many describe as a clear sign of misplaced priorities, Uche Ogah is said to have influenced the nomination of a secondary school principal from Uturu as Commissioner for Trade and Industry, a position critics argue requires deeper understanding of economic management and administrative experience. Similarly, the appointment of the Rector of the School of Health in Aba, who was his nominee raised further questions about the competence and merit of those he supports.
It is recalled that during his time as Minister of State for Iron and Steel in 2023, Uche Ogah was reportedly involved in the manipulation of lease approvals for solid mineral deals, transactions which sources say are now under investigation. Critics believe those questionable dealings were the platform he used to relaunch himself politically.
Even within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party he publicly identifies with, Ogah is said to be viewed with deep distrust. Party insiders confirm that his political history of betrayal and opportunism has made it difficult for genuine APC leaders to freely associate with him.
Observers further describe Uche Ogah as a politician who has never stood for any consistent principle or cause, switching sides whenever it suits his personal or business interests. His brand of politics, they argue, is driven by greed and treachery, not vision or conviction.
While workers at Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) reportedly earn as little as N29K and those at ABAA N55K, and while the state remains the only one in Southern Nigeria yet to pay gratuities, Uche Ogah and his cohorts remain blinded by the illusion of 2031.
The former Minister has kept blind eye on the N72b spent repairs of public schools by Abia State Government which till date has remained controversial.
Analysts warn that such desperation for political survival continues to overshadow genuine concern for the people of Abia. It is believed that Abians will never support the light that DIAMOND BANK saw before it went under. They maintain that the “light” Uche Ogah boasts of is nothing but darkness disguised as hope, a false illumination fueled by ambition and deceit.
