A Nigerian woman has advised people to seek romantic partners close to home, warning against long-distance relationships with partners based abroad.

In a post shared on X, she narrated how she dated a man living overseas and spent months caring for an elderly man he claimed was his sick father in Nigeria. She said she used her own money, cleaned, cooked, and provided round-the-clock care out of love.
The woman later discovered that the man was married, and the elderly man she cared for was his wife’s father. She alleged that the man told his wife she was merely a paid maid, not his girlfriend.
According to her, it took seven months to uncover the truth. Describing the experience as deeply painful and deceptive, she warned that many abroad-based partners live double lives.
She urged people to “find love around you,” saying such relationships reduce the risk of hidden marriages and prolonged deception.
