The political tension in Rivers State appears to be easing following a late-night intervention by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

According to a report by The Nation on Monday, the President met with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; and other key stakeholders from the state. Although details of the closed-door meeting were not disclosed, the talks are believed to be aimed at resolving the lingering political crisis in the state.

The report further claimed that after the meeting, Governor Fubara accompanied Wike to his residence in Guzape, Abuja. During the visit, Fubara was said to have appealed to the former governor, pledging not to act disrespectfully toward him again, an indication of possible reconciliation between the two influential figures.

The development has raised hopes that the prolonged political standoff in Rivers State may soon be resolved.
