George Esua Udom, a member of the All Progressives Congress [APC] and National Coordinator of Progressive Volunteers for Tinubu, has resigned from the party with immediate effect.
In a resignation letter dated May 4, 2026, addressed to the Ward Chairman of Northern Iman Ward 2, Udom said the decision followed “careful and considered reflection” on the current state of the party in Akwa Ibom State.
Udom cited a lack of internal democracy and fairness as the primary reasons for his exit. He accused Governor Umo Eno of backing the return of several federal and state lawmakers ahead of the 2027 elections, a move he said had sparked controversy and deepened feelings of exclusion within the party.
“Having joined the APC in 2014, it has been an honour to contribute to its growth, particularly in strengthening its mobilisation framework,” Udom wrote. “However, the principles of equity and internal participation that drew many of us to the party are no longer evident.”
His resignation has triggered fresh friction within the Akwa Ibom APC, with party members questioning the governor’s strategy to unify the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political observers note that the development could widen existing fault lines in the state chapter, especially as positioning for 2027 intensifies.
Udom thanked party members at the ward, local government, and state levels for their support over the years, but said he could no longer remain in a structure where he believed fairness and democratic processes were being sidelined.
As of press time, the APC in Akwa Ibom State and the office of Governor Umo Eno had not issued an official response.
