Germany defender, Nico Schlotterbeck, has been ruled out of the 2026 World Cup after suffering a left ankle ligament injury.

The German Football Association announced the setback this Monday following medical examinations carried out after Germany’s 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast on Saturday.
The 26-year-old Borussia Dortmund defender, who scored in Germany’s 7-1 win over Curacao, is expected to be sidelined for several months but will remain with the squad in the United States for the time being.
Germany coach, Julian Nagelsmann, described Schlotterbeck’s absence as a major blow, saying the defender had been enjoying an outstanding tournament and could have played a key role in the team’s World Cup campaign.
