Popular minister and former club promoter, Apostle Belema Billy, has revealed the severe emotional and psychological trauma she endured after unknowingly marrying a man suffering from bipolar disorder. Her testimony sheds light on the hidden struggles that can occur behind seemingly perfect relationships.

According to Apostle Billy, her marriage began in haste, driven by physical attraction rather than careful consideration. She recounted that she was drawn to his handsome appearance, which reminded her of actor Will Smith, and agreed to marry him just two weeks after meeting him.

In her words, “I married a man that I did not know had a mental illness. I was looking for a man that looked like Will Smith. The guy came to me, and in two weeks, he was proposing,” she explained during her appearance on Daddy Freeze’s live show.

Behind the glamorous public image, Apostle Billy said her life was far from enviable. She described enduring constant emotional abuse and harassment while acting as caretaker for her husband. “I called soft. Sometimes he would wake up and curse me out. When I was seven months pregnant, he looked me in the eyes and said he would destroy me,” she revealed.

The minister also emphasized the sense of isolation she felt during this period. Despite being admired by the public as a couple, her personal life was marked by fear and uncertainty. The abuse extended beyond verbal attacks, as she was left to navigate the challenges of pregnancy and manage her husband’s unpredictable mood swings largely on her own.

“People think marriage is just about love and appearances, but there are things you can’t see until it’s too late,” she said. “You may be admired publicly, but the private battles can be brutal, especially when mental illness is involved and goes untreated.”

“My experience has been painful, but it has also strengthened me. I share it so others can learn, protect themselves, and not make the same mistakes I did,” she concluded.
