Former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has declared his continued loyalty to the party, insisting he will not defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside his former principal, Peter Obi.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday at the Labour Party National Headquarters in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed said his political commitment remains with the LP, the platform on which he contested the 2023 presidential election as Obi’s running mate.

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the former Kaduna North senator stated that he is not convinced by the ADC-led coalition, describing its members as “disgruntled politicians” seeking relevance.

Peter Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023, recently left the party and aligned with the ADC, a platform reportedly backed by opposition figures aiming to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Baba-Ahmed, 56, reaffirmed his readiness to contribute to Nigeria’s progress, saying he remains available to help “fix Nigeria” ahead of the next election cycle.
