According to a report by Daily Post on Friday, March 6, 2026, former Anambra State Governor, Mr Peter Obi, has officially announced his intention to run for the presidency in the 2027 election.

He stated that he will not allow the presence of numerous governors in the All Progressives Congress, APC, to intimidate or discourage him from participating in the race.
Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023, explained that there have been multiple efforts aimed at discouraging him from contesting again.
He assured his supporters that these attempts will not sway his determination to participate in the 2027 elections.
Speaking to his followers in Njikoka, Anambra State, on Friday, Obi emphasized that Nigeria has reached a state of collapse and requires urgent intervention to restore stability.
He expressed that his motivation for seeking the presidency is not personal ambition, but a commitment to seeing a functional and effective Nigeria.
Obi highlighted the challenges within the political system, noting the maneuvers by certain political actors who have tried to manipulate constitutional provisions to prevent his candidacy.
He insisted that despite these obstacles, he remains focused on ensuring that the electoral process is conducted freely and fairly.
