Omoyele Sowore, in a video posted on his official YouTube account, spoke on the status of the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, arguing that his tenure has effectively come to an end based on age and service requirements. He stated that the issue centers on established rules governing retirement within the police force.
He argued that once an officer attains either 60 years of age or completes 35 years of service, their tenure is considered concluded, adding that this standard should apply without exception. He added that the matter has already been noted publicly and that the next steps would follow accordingly.
According to him, “I have told you that the first thing is the recognition of the fact that he has attained 60 years of age or has put in 35 years into the police service, and that tenure elapsed as far as we are concerned yesterday, and we take it from there. So that’s how we roll over these matters. We already announced yesterday, and he is also aware that his tenure is 60 years old. So if he celebrated the 60-year-old birthday yesterday, he already understood, but I’m not the one who appoints IGs.”
