The Lagos State Police Command has formally invited Pastor Chris Okafor, Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries (also known as Liberation City), to appear at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti for questioning over serious allegations including multiple rape, other sexual offences, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the invitation was served through the pastor’s legal representative. He is expected to report to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID by 10 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed a thorough, professional, and unbiased investigation into the complaints, which emerged from several petitions and widespread social media reports.
“The Lagos State Police Command is committed to maintaining law and order… no individual, regardless of status or influence, will be shielded,” the statement emphasised. It assured full protection and confidentiality for victims and witnesses, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
The probe follows a wave of allegations that surfaced in mid-December 2025, primarily triggered by Nollywood actress Doris Ogala. In a series of emotional Instagram videos posted on December 14, Ogala claimed a nine-year sexual relationship with the pastor starting in 2017, accusing him of repeated promises of marriage (later broken), sharing explicit content, and contributing to the breakdown of her previous marriage.
Other accusers, including Okafor’s former wife Bessem Okafor, have alleged infidelity, manipulation, and physical abuse. Some online claims have extended to more severe accusations, including involvement in murder, though the police statement focused on sexual offences and public peace concerns.
In response to the escalating scandal, Pastor Okafor publicly apologised during a church service on New Year’s Day, kneeling at the pulpit and acknowledging past “mistakes” while seeking forgiveness, without addressing specific details. He subsequently stepped aside from active pastoral duties, amid reports that the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) is considering internal sanctions.
The police initially noted the absence of formal petitions but proceeded with the investigation due to public outrage and media reports, underscoring that justice will prevail irrespective of the individual’s position.
