A tragic incident has thrown Oben Village in Benin City, Edo State, into mourning after a 43-year-old man, Eghosa Osas, who recently returned from abroad to celebrate Christmas with his family, was allegedly killed by his childhood friend.
The incident reportedly occurred on December 27, 2025, during a housewarming gathering. According to sources, the victim had briefly excused himself from the event when he was allegedly confronted and attacked.
The suspect, identified as Amadin William, popularly known as Old Soldier, reportedly fled the scene but was later arrested in Benin City the following day.
Confirming the incident, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Eno Ikoedem, said the case was reported by the victim’s elder brother. She added that investigations are ongoing and the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the probe.
The tragic incident has left residents of the community in shock, casting a dark cloud over the Christmas celebration and sparking calls for justice.
