Manchester United have secured most of the land required for the construction of a new 100,000-seat stadium to replace Old Trafford.

The proposed £2 billion project, described as the “Wembley of the North”, marks a major step forward in the club’s plans for a new home.

Club officials say further details of the stadium and the wider regeneration project will be unveiled on July 9, while the venue is expected to open around 2032.

The new stadium will have a capacity of 100,000, making it one of the largest football grounds in Europe.
