On Friday January 16, 2026, a desperate and agonizing voice pierced through the quiet and calm village of Umuakwu Nsulu, Akwuanunu Autonomous Community, Isiala Ngwa North LGA, Abia state. That voice was that of Mrs Sorochi Okwudiri, a widow in the commuity that suddenly confronted an act that shocked her. She ran for her dear life and reached out to the community Vigilante Group who were startled with the disturbing report of an incident involving the alleged murder of one Ms Ugonma James, a native of Ubaha Nsulu by one Mr. Eze Fedrick Ogbedu of Umueroga village, Umuakwu Nsulu.

The report has it that, Sorochi Okwudiri was on her way to a private errand when she stumbled on Eze Fredrick Ogbedu who was attempting to bury something she suspected was a human being. She promptly raised the alarm to attract attention of the Vigilante Group. Sadly, before they arrived, Ogbedu escaped the scene and have not been apprehended since then. People who are in the know said, Ogbedu and the late Ugonma have been in a relationship as both were seen around together for a long time before the ugly incident. But nobody seems to know what must have led to the death of the young Lady, Ugonma.

The vigilante group, immediately placed a call to the Okpuala Ngwa Police division, reporting the incident. A member of the community who spoke with reporters alleged that police response was sluggish, but when they later arrived, they took pictures and made plans to deposit the corpse at the mortuary.
However in a twist of events, the Vigilante Group that reported the matter to the police, including their Chairman, Uzondu Daniel, the eyewitness, Mrs Sorochi Okwudiri that first raised the alarm were all detained by Okpuala Ngwa Police station by the order of the Okpuala Ngwa DPO (Divisional Police Division officer) through the IPO ( Investigating Police Officer), Arongwa, labelling them as eyewitness to a crime, according to Mr. Chibuike Uwaezuoke, a community Youth Leader.
Those detained include Lucky Omerekpe; the Vigilante Chairman, Mr. Uzondu Daniel; Mrs. Sorochi Okwudiri and David Chibuike

A member of the community, who spoke with newsmen said, that the IPO, Arongwa maintained that David Chibuike will not be released unless the prime suspect (Eze Fedrick ) is found The community is also aghast that those who reported an alleged murder case have suddenly become victims, with the responsibility of arresting suspect that escaped without trace.
” The people of Umuakwu Nsulu Community are not happy with the way Okpuala Ngwa Police Division is handling this matter so, we are requesting for the transfer of the case to the State CID, Umuahia, for proper investigation
“We are shocked that the Police is detaining the people that reported this ugly incident to them. We want prompt action to ensure justice is served,” Comrade Uwaezuoke said.
