The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has dismissed social media claims that Amoxicillin has been banned in Nigeria, calling the reports false and misleading. The agency emphasized that no blanket ban on the antibiotic exists.
The regulatory body clarified that while it regularly issues safety alerts and recalls for specific substandard batches of medicines, these do not amount to a nationwide ban on Amoxicillin.
Recent safety alerts targeted only certain brands and batches with quality issues, such as low active ingredient levels, and involved recalls of affected products, not the medicine as a whole.
NAFDAC urged the public to ignore unverified claims and rely only on official updates from its verified communication channels to ensure accurate information on medicines and health matters.
