The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has warned its governorship and National Assembly aspirants that any elected official who defects from the party after winning an election risks losing their seat.

NDC National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, stated this in Abuja during the unveiling of a mandatory indemnity and affidavit policy for candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said the policy was introduced to curb political defections and ensure that elected officials remain loyal to the party throughout their tenure.

According to Cleopas, candidates seeking the party’s ticket must sign an affidavit agreeing to surrender their mandate if they leave the NDC after being elected.

He added that the party believes electoral mandates belong to political parties and not individual candidates.
