Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE have arrested two herders for trespassing and destroying crops in Makurdi, Benue State, the army confirmed on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on November 20 when the herders led their cattle into cultivated farmlands during a routine patrol, damaging local farmers’ crops. Swift intervention by the troops prevented further destruction and possible clashes.
The suspects are now in custody for investigation and legal action. Major General Moses Gara, Force Commander of OPWS, commended the troops’ professionalism and urged the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands. He reiterated the operation’s commitment to protecting farmlands and ensuring peaceful coexistence.
