The last may not have been heard about the anti-party activities of the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, BoT, former Senate President Adolphus Wabara as a pro-democracy youth group within the Abia PDP, the Action Youths for Democracy, has publicly called on him to cease his unedifying efforts to undermine the PDP both in Abia and across Nigeria.

The youth group’s statement is coming on the heels of highly controversial comment by Adolphus Wabara which endorsed Abia governor Alex Otti for a second term come 2027 guber contest.

Speaking to journalists recently, the spokesperson of the group, Chief Ude Njoku Ukwen said that Wabara’s recent public declaration that the Governor of Abia, Alex Oti, has already secured a second term raised overarching concerns about his intentions and loyalty to the party.

Senator Wabara’s statement has continued to draw sharp criticism from many individuals both within and outside the PDP as the statement was not supposed to come from a highly placed officer of the PDP, because it was not only premature, but also detrimental to the reputation and stability of the Abia PDP.

Lending his voice to the outrage, the FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike recently lampooned Wabara for his unguarded and irresponsible statement, and called on him to restrain himself from further actions that dwindle the reputation of the PDP.

Curiously, Alex Otti was yet to complete his first year in office at the time Wabara endorsed him for a second term against his own party, and members of the PDP believe that Wabara’s endorsement of the governor’s future ambition sent a troubling message about the PDP’s electoral value.

Pronouncements such as the one intentionally made by Wabara could mislead and create a perception of entitlement rather than meritocracy within Abia State.

Furthermore, and profoundly disturbing is allegation that Adolphus Wabara is receiving financial support from Governor Otti to facilitate actions capable of destroying the stability and electoral values of the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections. This accusation was based on inside fact that Wabara and those in cahoot with him received N50m from Governor Otti during Wabara’s birthday anniversary and reception that was held by the PDP in Abia State. This action is likened to sleeping in the same bed with the enemy, and it is obvious that the acceptance of this monetary gift is nothing but an inducement by the LP government to destabilise the PDP, and this is clearly unacceptable, especially as the one who is supposed to lead and protect the PDP at the highest level is the one at the centre of the controversial drama.

Senator Wabara’s action highlights the obvious dangers inherent in his cohabitation with the LP, and questions his credibility and integrity to lead the PDP as the BoT Chair.

It is interesting to recall that Senator Adolph Wabara served as the Senate President under President Olusegun Obasanjo and remains the first number three citizen who failed to attract any federal infrastructure to his village, local government area, and the broader Abia South senatorial zone. His tenure lacked significant development projects, which led to dissatisfaction among his constituents who expected more from their representative.

Consequently, party members are called upon to engage all stakeholders in dialogue and honest discussions to ensure that the damage done to the party by the callous statement and action of the PDP BoT Chairman is quickly repaired for the image and stability of the party. The PDP stakeholders demand accountability, responsibility, and responsiveness from Wabara, and also demand of him to step aside as the Chairman of the PDP BoT as he has clearly demonstrated his inability to lead the party into the future.
