Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has declared the last Saturday of every January as Igbo Adoration and Thanksgiving Day, set aside for gratitude to God for the preservation of the Igbo people.

The decision was taken at the group’s National Executive Committee meeting held on January 20, following an appeal by the Igbo College of Bishops.

The move also changed an earlier plan that proposed the last Sunday of January, with leaders agreeing that Saturday was more suitable for the observance.

Ohanaeze urged Igbos at home and in the diaspora to fully participate, with churches asked to mark the maiden celebration on January 31, 2026, through prayers, adoration, and thanksgiving.
