The Anambra State Police Command has named Ifesinachi Ezeolu, 28, as the person behind the violent masquerade that attacked residents and disrupted a festival in Awgbu community, Orumba North LGA.

The incident, which occurred during the last Ofala Festival of the traditional ruler, was captured in viral videos showing the masquerade chasing and assaulting passers-by, forcibly pushing riders off motorcycles, and destroying property, creating widespread panic.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga stated that while the Nigeria Police Force respects cultural traditions, no festival activity should be used to harass, intimidate, or violate citizens’ rights. He emphasized that all public gatherings must be peaceful and lawful, and that any acts causing fear or injury would be addressed.
Investigations are ongoing to identify and bring other suspects linked to the incident to justice. CP Ikioye Orutugu, Commissioner of Police in Anambra, reassured residents that the command will work with traditional rulers and community leaders to ensure both cultural expression and public safety.
