The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested six suspects linked to an alleged “one chance” kidnapping syndicate believed to have targeted women across parts of Abuja.
According to the police, the victim was abducted in the Maitama area on June 29. Her captors initially demanded ₦20 million but later accepted ₦8.25 million before releasing her on July 3.
Using digital intelligence and surveillance, operatives tracked the suspects to Suleja in neighbouring Niger State, where they were arrested on July 5.
Police identified the suspects as Ifeoma Nnamchi, Peter Rasheed Onwunumah, Olanipekun Anuoluwa, Jemimah Monday, and two teenagers, Gabriel Nnamchi (14) and Stanley Nnamchi (17).
During the operation, officers recovered the full ₦8.25 million ransom, two vehicles allegedly used by the syndicate, mobile phones, a laptop, jewellery suspected to have been stolen from previous victims, EarPods and a cutlass.
Investigators also alleged that two members of the gang had previously been arrested for similar offences. The syndicate is suspected to have operated along the Kubwa Expressway, Maitama Federal Housing Road and other parts of the FCT, allegedly kidnapping and robbing several women.
In a separate operation, police arrested four other suspects during raids in Kuje, Kwali and Abaji Area Councils. The suspects are accused of supplying ammunition and illicit drugs to kidnappers and bandits.
Officers recovered 42 rounds of live ammunition hidden inside a vehicle, along with codeine syrup, cannabis, tramadol, cash, mobile phones and other items.
The FCT Police Command also disclosed that intelligence-led operations across the territory over the past week led to the arrest of 560 suspects and the recovery of several firearms and ammunition.
Police have assured residents that operations against criminal gangs will continue and urged members of the public to provide timely information that can help prevent crime and keep communities safe.
