The people of Taabaa, Ogoni, Rivers State, are celebrating a local hunter, known as Spirit Man, for killing an African Fish Eagle.

In Ogoni tradition, the eagle symbolizes strength, royalty, and honour, making sightings rare and kills even rarer. On January 12, 2026, the hunter presented the bird at the ancestral palace of Mene Asaa for recognition and blessing.

The African Fish Eagle, native to Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, Cross River, and other southern states, is facing population decline due to habitat loss, pollution, and human activities including hunting.
