The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Inspector Victor Okus for shooting two fellow officers at Next Cash and Carry Supermarket, Trans-Amadi, Port Harcourt, on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

The victims, Inspectors Ibrahim Sani and Daniel Dauda, were on joint guard duty with military personnel when the incident occurred around 1:20 p.m. Both were shot—Sani in the head and Dauda in the neck. Inspector Sani later died at Nopsam Hospital, while Inspector Dauda remains under medical care. Sani’s remains have been deposited at the Military Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Rivers State Police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, said Inspector Okus is in custody and will face an orderly room trial before being charged to court. Police Commissioner Olugbenga Adepoju ordered a thorough investigation and warned officers to exercise extreme caution with firearms on duty.

Preliminary findings suggest the shooting was intentional, with sources dismissing claims that the weapon accidentally discharged. The command extended condolences to the family and colleagues of the late Inspector Sani.
