Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister Nyesom Wike are engaging with a PANDEF-led peace committee to ease tensions over Fubara’s impeachment threat. Meetings with both camps have been described as productive, raising hopes for reconciliation.

Some lawmakers reportedly seek assurances for 2027 election tickets rather than acting on genuine misconduct claims, while Wike wants a ministerial role confirmed by President Bola Tinubu. The Rivers APC has urged the Chief Judge to respect a court order halting the impeachment process.
Over 50,000 Ijaw voters have transferred their units to Rivers in support of Fubara’s re-election. The political feud stems from a longstanding power struggle between Fubara and Wike since 2023.
