The management of Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, has banned undergraduate students from driving personal vehicles on campus between 4 p.m. and 7 a.m. following the death of a 21-year-old student.
The Acting Registrar, Idanyingi Daminabo, said this Friday in Port Harcourt that the decision followed the death of Eno Udoson, who was allegedly knocked down by a speeding vehicle driven by an undergraduate on Tuesday.
Daminabo said two students have been arrested and handed over to the police, while undergraduates bringing vehicles to campus must now park them at the designated car park near the main gate and use the university’s shuttle buses.
He added that reckless driving would attract suspension, disciplinary action and impoundment of vehicles, while the Rivers State Police Command said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
