Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who represents Abia South Senatorial District, has officially defected from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The veteran lawmaker announced his defection on Tuesday, describing the move as a strategic step toward addressing Nigeria’s worsening economic and governance challenges.

A former Deputy Governor of Abia State and one of the longest-serving senators from the South-East, Abaribe’s defection marks a major political realignment in the region ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His exit follows growing internal tensions within APGA and is seen as a significant boost for the ADC, which has recently attracted prominent political figures nationwide.

Political analysts believe the move could weaken APGA’s influence in Abia South while strengthening the ADC’s presence in the region.

As of the time of filing this report, APGA leadership has yet to respond officially.
