Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi Central, has raised concerns over the withdrawal of his police orderly, calling for uniform compliance with President Bola Tinubu’s November 23 directive to remove police officers assigned to VIPs nationwide.
Speaking on the Senate floor on Wednesday, Ningi noted that while his security detail was withdrawn, other political officeholders, ministers, business figures, and private individuals continued to enjoy police protection. He urged that the directive be applied consistently across all offices, citing the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act 2008.
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin confirmed the issue was discussed by Senate leadership and said the matter would be formally investigated by the committee on police affairs. He emphasized that the withdrawal of security personnel for some lawmakers while others retain protection undermines the president’s directive, which aims to strengthen national security.
