Residents of Odo Oriya community in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State were thrown into panic on Saturday night following the abduction of the traditional ruler of the town, Oba Adeniyi Adelana.
The 60-year-old monarch was reportedly kidnapped by suspected terrorists who stormed the community in a violent attack. During the incident, the king’s wife sustained gunshot injuries after the assailants opened fire.
Sources within the community disclosed that the attackers invaded the monarch’s residence under the cover of darkness before whisking the royal father away to an unknown destination. The circumstances surrounding the attack have heightened concerns over the worsening security situation in parts of the state.
The injured queen was said to have been rushed to a medical facility for treatment, although details regarding her current condition remain unclear at the time of filing this report.
Confirming the development, security authorities stated that efforts were already underway to rescue the abducted monarch and apprehend those responsible for the attack. According to the police, operatives have been deployed and are actively combing nearby forests and surrounding areas in search of the kidnappers.
