President Bola Tinubu has decorated Tunji Disu with his new rank as acting Inspector-General of Police at the State House, Abuja.

The ceremony took place at about 4pm this Wednesday, at the President’s office, a day after the resignation of former IGP, Kayode Egbetokun. A statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that the resignation was accepted on Tuesday.

Tinubu commended the outgoing IGP for his service, while announcing that Disu will remain in acting capacity pending confirmation by the Nigeria Police Council and the Senate, in line with constitutional provisions.

Disu’s appointment comes 48 days before his scheduled retirement on April 13, 2026, but under the amended Police Act, he may serve a four-year tenure subject to confirmation.
