President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of American civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, describing him as a global symbol of justice and equality.
Tinubu praised Jackson’s decades-long fight for racial justice, noting his close work with Martin Luther King Jr. and his influence on American politics. He credited Jackson with helping pave the way for Barack Obama’s presidency.
Recalling his own experience as a student in Chicago, Tinubu highlighted Jackson’s role in promoting human rights and supporting Africa, including opposition to apartheid and backing Nelson Mandela’s release.
The President described Jackson as a friend of Nigeria and Africa and praised his enduring message of hope and resilience. He prayed for the peaceful repose of the late activist’s soul.
