Our attention has been drawn to the misleading statements circulated by Mr. Ken Ahia, SAN, suggesting that an attempt was made to obtain judgment against him without his knowledge. These claims are entirely false and deliberately aimed at deceiving the unsuspecting public.

For clarity, Mr. Obinna Oriaku is not a desperate person and has never attempted to secure any judgment behind Mr. Ahia’s back. The suit in question was filed early this year, and Mr. Ahia was duly served since April 2025. When personal service on him proved impossible, the court granted leave for substituted service through his Aba office at 64 Hospital Road, Aba and his Aba office on his instruction forwarded the said court processes to him via his whatsApp handle.. He cannot therefore claim ignorance of the pendency of the suit against him.

Court proceedings are governed strictly by the Rules of Court. Any party with a defence is expected to respond within the timeframe provided by law rather than resorting to theatrics or playing to the gallery. Under the Rules, a defendant has 42 days to file a defence and 14 days to enter appearance. Despite being properly served, Mr. Ahia has failed to comply with either requirement up to this moment.

Where a defendant refuses or neglects to file a defence within the stipulated period, the law permits the claimant to apply for judgment. Our legal team therefore acted strictly within the law by filing an application for judgment following Mr. Ahia’s failure to fike his defence. The motion for judgment and all originating processes were also served on him through his Aba office, with proof of service contained in the court’s case file.

It is noteworthy that Mr. Ahia personally informed our lawyer, C. C. Uhuaba, Esq last night that his Aba office photocopied the served documents and forwarded them to him. It is therefore curious how he now claims not to have been served or alleges attempts to obtain judgment behind his back.

It is evident that Mr. Ahia has no defence to the suit. If he had one, he would have filed it instead of resorting to social-media lie mongering. A lawyer at his level should not be among those embarrassing the image of the legal profession.
