The Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has officially commissioned and handed over a Digital Learning Centre in Umuahia, aimed at advancing digital literacy and fostering inclusive growth among women and youths in Abia State.

The facility, equipped with state-of-the-art computers and ICT resources, was established by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) and the Office of the Wife of the Governor of Abia State. It is situated within the Ministry of Women Affairs and Women Development Centre, Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

Speaking virtually during the commissioning, Senator Tinubu noted that ten fully equipped Digital Learning Centres were inaugurated simultaneously across ten states of the federation, including Abia, Edo, Delta, Kano, Katsina, Lagos, Nasarawa, Ondo, Yobe, and Zamfara States.

She explained that the initiative, implemented under the mandate of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, seeks to expand digital access nationwide by providing communities with the tools and knowledge required to build ICT skills and empower citizens.

In his remarks, the Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Abdullahi, also speaking virtually, said the project underscores the administration’s commitment to harnessing digital innovation for national prosperity. He described the centres as pivotal to enhancing citizens’ digital fluency and urged beneficiaries to utilize the facilities not only for personal development but also to drive community and national growth.

Representing the Wife of the Governor of Abia State, Her Excellency Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adaeze Emetu, described the project as an “impactful initiative” and a “significant milestone in Abia State’s participation in the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Social Investment Programme.”

Mrs. Otti expressed profound gratitude to the Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her visionary leadership and commitment to empowering women, girls, and vulnerable groups with digital knowledge and skills. She noted that the centre aligns perfectly with the goals of the Renewed Hope Initiative and the developmental agenda of the Abia State Government.

She also commended NITDA and its Director General, Mr. Kashifu Inuwa, for their tireless efforts in bridging the digital divide and driving innovation across the nation, adding that ICT knowledge is a powerful catalyst for community empowerment, especially for women and girls who seek to overcome traditional barriers and unlock new opportunities.

According to her, the newly commissioned centre will serve as a “game-changer” for Abia women and youths by enhancing their educational prospects, fostering self-reliance, and positioning them to participate meaningfully in the global digital economy.

Mrs. Otti further highlighted that Abia State, under the visionary leadership of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, is already advancing digital empowerment through the TechRise Programme, which has successfully trained hundreds of young people, including women, in various technology-driven skills. She noted that the ongoing second cohort has already engaged over 850 youths across the state.

Reaffirming the state’s commitment to sustaining and maximizing the new digital facility, Mrs. Otti pledged that Abia would “embrace full ownership of the centre,” ensuring its active use and effective management for the benefit of the people.

She concluded by reaffirming her commitment to continue partnering with the Renewed Hope Initiative and other national programmes that promote women and youth development, emphasizing that Abia State remains open to further collaborations that drive innovation, inclusion, and empowerment.

The event was attended by women from various organizations, students from different schools, and top government officials.
