Nigerian media personality and actress Toke Makinwa has shared her views on infidelity, stating that women cheat just as much as men — and in some cases, even more — but are often more discreet about it.
Speaking on a recent episode of her Toke Moments podcast, Toke said cheating comes more easily to women because they often do not have to invest as much time, money, or effort as men.
According to her, this realization has influenced her perspective on relationships and fidelity, adding that cheating is no longer an automatic dealbreaker for her, though it depends on the circumstances.
“When I say cheating is not a dealbreaker, people think I’m encouraging it. That’s not true,” she explained. “As I get older, I realise that it’s not only men who cheat. Why do we make it seem like men are special?”
She noted that men often have to spend resources to cheat, while women are typically on the receiving end, making it easier for them.
“Do you know how easy it is for a woman to cheat? It’s even easier for us. Men spend money, time, and effort, but women are just receiving,” she said.
Toke added that a woman choosing not to cheat is often a matter of self-control rather than lack of opportunity.
“A woman not cheating is not because she can’t. It’s because she has discipline,” she said, referencing situations such as having a “work boyfriend.”
She concluded by stating that women cheat just as much — if not more — than men, but tend to be more discreet about it.
