The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has issued an apology to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government, and millions of Nigerians following the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after losing to DR Congo in the Africa Play-off Final in Rabat.

In a statement on Monday, the NFF described the loss as a moment of deep disappointment for a nation where football serves as a symbol of unity, hope, and national pride. The federation acknowledged the expectations of Nigerians and the emotional investment of fans, the Federal Government, media, and diplomatic missions throughout the qualification campaign.
“Football in Nigeria is more than a game; it is a national language and a powerful symbol of unity. We owe it to this nation to honour that bond with sincerity, accountability, and action,” the NFF said.
Looking forward, the NFF plans a strategic review of technical, administrative, and structural gaps and is turning its focus to the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 as an opportunity to rebuild, restore pride, and demonstrate Nigerian football’s resilience.
“Nigeria is a nation of resilience and unyielding hope. Just as the nation rises from every challenge, so too will the Super Eagles,” the statement concluded.
