American rapper Nicki Minaj (Onika Maraj-Petty) is set to address a United Nations event in New York on Tuesday, focusing on reported jihadist attacks on Christians in Nigeria.

Minaj will appear alongside U.S. Ambassador to the UN Michael Waltz and Alex Bruesewitz, an adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump and convener of the event.

Ambassador Waltz praised Minaj as “not only arguably the greatest female recording artist, but also a principled individual who refuses to remain silent in the face of injustice,” commending her for using her platform to highlight “atrocities against Christians in Nigeria.”

Minaj responded, expressing gratitude for the opportunity and emphasizing that she would “never stand down in the face of injustice,” noting the responsibility of her influence.

The event follows claims by President Trump that Nigeria is experiencing a “Christian genocide” and his call for Congress to designate the country as a “Country of Particular Concern.”

Nigeria’s Federal Government has strongly denied allegations of religiously motivated violence, asserting that insecurity in the country is primarily due to criminal activities, not faith-based persecution. U.S. officials, however, continue to express concern.
