Electricity supply to the Aba Ringfence, covering nine local government areas (LGAs) in Abia State, has been fully restored following emergency repairs to a vandalized pipeline supporting the 188-megawatt Geometric Power Plant.

The Aba Power Managing Director, Ugo Opiegbe, confirmed that the restoration was achieved through the efforts of Heirs Energies, operators of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL)–Heirs Energies Joint Venture on Oil Mining Licence (OML) 17.

He also announced a planned reduction in power supply for 10 hours tomorrow to facilitate further repairs on the damaged section of the pipeline. This temporary measure is required to address an illegal connection discovered on the Trans-Niger Gas Pipeline (TNP), a key infrastructure running from Egbema in Imo State through Rivers State to Bonny Terminal.

According to Engr. Vincent Ogbonna Chukwueke, a Lagos-based gas consultant and former senior manager with The Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), disruptions to oil pipelines often lead to shutdowns of gas facilities because liquids released during gas processing cannot be evacuated.

The Geometric Power Group and other stakeholders are reportedly working to minimize the downtime’s impact, with the expectation that the repairs might be completed in less than 10 hours.
