Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Mohammed has categorically dismissed widespread speculation that he is planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting he remains fully committed to his current party.

Persistent rumors in recent days suggested the governor, who also serves as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, was on the verge of switching sides, with some reports claiming the move could happen as early as this week amid ongoing political realignments ahead of future elections.

The speculation gained traction following reports of discussions involving senior APC figures and offers reportedly extended to the governor.

Addressing journalists briefly after presiding over the swearing-in ceremony of 17 newly appointed permanent secretaries at the Government House in Bauchi on Wednesday, Governor Mohammed declined to give a full interview at the time but directly refuted the claims.

He stated clearly that he had not defected and described the circulating reports as unfounded, while describing himself as a prominent figure in Nigerian politics.

The governor indicated he would provide a more detailed response later in the day, specifically mentioning an upcoming appearance on Channels Television at 7 pm to clarify the matter further.
